What Wren is
Wren is a voice-first diary for people living with Parkinson's, ALS, Alzheimer's and other dementias, and MS, and for the people who care for them.
You tap one big button and say how the day went, in your own words, in any order. Wren listens and organizes it into a diary entry: stiffness, tremor, falls, sleep, mood, swallowing, medicines. It keeps your exact words, reminds you about your doses, and turns months of small entries into a page you can hand to your doctor.
Your diary is stored on your phone. There is no account, no password and nothing to sign up for.
Wren is a diary, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat or monitor anything, and it is not a substitute for a doctor. Never change a medicine because of anything in the app. If somebody is in danger, ring emergency services.
Getting help
Write to hello@wrenapp.care. A person reads it, and we try to answer within two working days.
It helps if you can tell us:
- What you were doing when it went wrong.
- What you expected to happen, and what happened instead.
- Which phone you have, and which version of Wren (Settings, at the bottom).
You never have to send us your diary, and please do not. We do not need it, and we would rather not have it.
Common questions
I have paid, and Wren Plus is not open. Open Settings inside Wren and tap "Restore purchases". That asks Apple what you bought and puts it back. Use the same Apple Account you paid with. If it still does not open, write to us with the order ID from Apple's receipt email.
I bought Plus and my father's phone is still locked. One plan opens the whole care circle. Both phones need to be in the same circle, with the same 3-word code, and both need to have been online since the purchase. Open Wren on both, give it a minute, and it will come through.
Wren cannot hear me. Check that the microphone permission is on: iPhone Settings, then Wren, then Microphone. Everything in Wren also works by typing, so nothing is closed to you if you would rather not speak.
Reminders are not arriving. Check notifications are on: iPhone Settings, then Wren, then Notifications. Reminders are a convenience and they can fail, so please do not rely on them for the safety of your medicines.
Wren is slow, or says it could not answer. Wren works offline. If the connection is down, it organizes your entry on your phone instead and you keep everything. Try again when you have signal.
Somebody in my care circle should not be able to see this any more. Open the circle screen and tap "Stop sharing and delete it". That turns sharing off and deletes the summary from our server. Nothing is deleted from your diary. Then make a new code before you share with anybody else.
How to cancel a subscription
Wren Plus yearly and monthly renew automatically until you stop them. Apple handles the billing, so you cancel in your phone's own settings, not inside Wren.
On your iPhone:
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the very top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Wren.
- Tap Cancel Subscription, and confirm.
You can also do it in the App Store app: tap your account picture at the top right, then Subscriptions, then Wren.
Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, or that period will already have been charged. Cancelling does not shorten what you have already paid for: Wren Plus stays open until the end of the period.
The Lifetime plan is a one-time payment. There is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.
Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Cancel it first, then delete.
Refunds
Apple takes the payment, so only Apple can give a refund. We cannot, and we have no way to see or reverse a charge.
Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with the Apple Account that paid, find Wren, and choose the option that fits. Apple decides under its own terms.
If somebody in your family has died, please write to us at hello@wrenapp.care. We cannot refund what Apple took, but we will tell you exactly what to ask Apple for, and we will help you stop anything else from being charged.
How to delete your data
Almost all of it is only ever on your phone, so this is quick and it is entirely in your hands.
One thing at a time. Anything in Wren can be deleted where you find it:
- A diary entry, from the diary.
- A fact Wren has learned, from "what Wren remembers".
- A doctor's letter, from the Doctor screen.
- A recording, from "Your voice". The sound file goes off the phone with it.
- A photograph, document, video or voice memo, by deleting the entry it is attached to.
- The walking measurements, by turning Health off in Settings, which deletes every reading Wren has read.
Everything at once, keeping the app. Open Settings inside Wren and tap "Start again from nothing". That clears the diary, the medicines, the memories, the recordings and the circle.
Everything, for good. Delete the Wren app from your phone. Everything it held goes with it, including every voice recording and every film. Remember to cancel a subscription first, because deleting the app does not cancel it.
The care circle. If you were sharing with somebody, tap "Stop sharing and delete it" on the circle screen. That deletes the sealed summary from our server as well as turning sharing off.
What we hold. We do not hold your diary, your name, your email or your phone number, because Wren never asks for them, so there is nothing for us to delete and nothing to request. The only records connected to you anywhere are the purchase records held by Apple and by our payment processor. If you want those removed, write to us with your Apple order ID and we will ask on your behalf.
There is more detail in the Privacy Promise and the Terms of Use.
Contact
By email: hello@wrenapp.care
On WhatsApp: +1 412 801 2248
Both reach the same person. WhatsApp is often easier if typing is hard, or if you are the one caring for somebody and you are reading this on a bus. You can send a voice message on it, and you do not have to be tidy about it.
If you are reporting abuse in the community, put "Report" in the subject line and we will look at it within 24 hours.
